Had a great time at the Loch Norse Open Mic last night, where I read from CROW OF CONNEMARA and sang a few of the songs referenced in the novel (and had the audience sing the chorus of one with me). Too much fun!

Today I'll be at Millennicon, where (since I am somehow the Musical Guest of Honor -- some people obviously have no taste) I'll be doing a concert as well as providing some entertainment at the Masquerade as the judges are making their decisions. Then, on Sunday, I revert to author mode and will be doing several panels as well as reading from CROW. My schedule's on the post below.

I'll be away and busy most of the weekend. So here's a question you can answer in the comments so I'll have something to look at when I have a chance to check in over the weekend: What's the last thing you purchased, and why? Me? A hygrometer so I can monitor the humidity in my acoustic guitar cases.

So what about you? What's the last thing you purchased, and why?

Other than food? A pair of knitting needles, in a size I already have but a material I don't (acrylic), because the yarn is slipping off the one I do (polished wood).

I wonder if you could rough up the wood a bit with some sandpaper? But hey, if the acrylic works, great!

Oh, I probably could, but usually the slipperiness of these wooden needles is a feature, not a bug, and I don't want to lose it.

I bought a cat least today because I trapped three stray cats that were spending the winter on my porch and I want to be able to let them out of the cage they're living in so that they can get a little more exercise, but I want to be able to keep them from getting away from me.

We had one cat we tried to walk on a leash. If you put the leash on, she'd sit on her haunches and refuse to move. If you tugged on the leash, she'd just fall over on her side and *still* not move. We could take her for a drag, but not a walk. :-)

I used to have a cat who loved walking on her leash. The little girls who lived in the same apartment complex would come over and beg to be allowed to take her for walks. That was fine, until the day she got away from them and ran up a pine tree. Getting her down was a big problem. My sister has a cat who likes walks and sometimes even goes hiking with her on his leash. If you want to get strange looks from people, try taking a cat hiking with you.

I don't expect my stray cats to go for walks though. I just want to be able to let them out of the cage a bit more. They're going to get spayed/neutered a few days from now and then the rescue people are going to put them up on Pet Finder and try to find homes for them. It would be nice if they'd get adopted quickly, but I suspect they'll still be here for some time.

My last purchase was an Easter basket and some items for same because there has been bunny-related activity directed towards the far-off Littlest Lovey.
