...that if the person you love doesn't already know and feel that, then giving him/her chocolate, flowers, and/or various heart-shaped accouterments isn't going to accomplish a great deal.

Indeed. I guess it's more about the reaffirmation? Or just -- in our case -- the search for silly things to give each other.
