I went to bed Sunday night feeling just fine. I woke up Monday with my left ankle throbbing a bit, and when I put it on the floor, I was limping like I'd twisted it. Pressing on the inside of the ankle just above the ankle bone hurt. I thought it would go away, but I was on it all day teaching, and it continued to get progressively stiffer and more painful, until I was pretty much hobbling up the stairs to the house when I got home, and grimacing like an old man.

I'm still hobbling around today.

How the hell did I manage to twist my ankle in bed? I sure don't remember doing it...

Oh dear it's contagious!

I woke up a couple of weeks ago with swelling on the top of my foot and a bruise. I have no clue how I managed that. It's slowly gotten better but it still hurts to bend the big toe.

I hope your ankle heals fast and you don't pass it on to anyone else.

*Note* it appears to have a two week incubation period.

Those contagious foot problems are nasty -- they should have a vaccine for that! :-)

I hope it heals quickly.

If you ever find out how you injured yourself when you didn't do anything, please let me know. It's been happening to me, too. I think we file this under "Aging sucks."

You wear arch supports since you're on your feet when you teach, yes? The "sprain" may be constant stress reaching critical mass.

Actually, I don't wear arch supports, and I probably should, since I do have 'flat feet.'

But in this case I think I actually twisted something somehow (maybe getting my feet tangled in sheets as I turned).

Nice icon!

If you have no memory of receiving an injury--no breaks in the skin, or anything like a boil or spider bite, I presume? Sometimes it doesn't even occur to people that this could be a staph infection. Rare, but possible (and very dangerous).

Nah, this is pretty definitely a muscular/tendon issue; I can't easily bend my foot up, and there's a specific spot where it's really painful.

Well if you're at all like my son you take your feet and fling them around while your eyes are shut. This technique works best if you can get at least one of them through the bars on the crib and then twist so it's stuck there.:)

Actually, I kinda figure that I must have had my feet tangled in the sheets or caught between the end of the bed and the footboard, and I do turn frequently during the night...

Give Nico a big hug for me!

ow!

Y'know, when you do something that hurts that much, it would be so much better if you could plausibly blame it on something heroic or something outstanding you did in the dojo. Hurting things in bed -and when you're asleep, for heavens sake... We're all getting old. sigh.

Now that's a good party...
