As a somewhat sidewise corollary to this piece by Kari Sperring, I'll confess that Denise -- reading the first draft of A FADING SUN for me, which (like many of my recent novels) has a female protagonist -- had to remind me that "Uh, Steve, doesn't Voada menstruate?"
To which remark my eyes widened, and I stuttered "Umm...Oh... yeah... I guess I kinda forgot that." (Because even though I've lived with a woman who, for the greater portion of our life together, dealt with that monthly occurrence, as a male, I never had to directly concern myself with it...) So for the record, Voada does menstruate. And now it's mentioned in the book... :-)
