A question for those on the Macintosh platform. I started to download the Yosemite system software, but as I was doing that, I started reading the comments about the upgrade -- and there were so many people complaining about issues and problems with Yosemite (outnumbering the people who were pleased with the upgrade) that I cancelled the download.

Anyone have any experience with 10.10.1? Should I be waiting for 10.10.2? Should I just stay with 10.9, which works just fine?

As a software developer, a few vital pieces were removed from Yosemite. So much of my development work was put on hold until I found ways around it. But! For the sane people that don't program for a living, there are a couple annoyances to get used you, and one particularly large bug. My biggest complaint with Yosemite thus far, is that it has broken bluetooth pairings. I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (both logitech brand) and nearly everyday, my computer fails to find them, reconnect with them, or pair them as a new device. Most mornings I get into the office, I spend ~15 minutes removing my paired trackpad and keyboard, restarting my computer, sometimes resetting the pram, then having to re-pair my keyboard & trackpad. Its a supreme annoyance that I can't just start my day. The comments from other users online, say this happens with the apple brand keyboard & trackpad, too. So its not just a 3rd party issue. If you don't use bluetooth devices with your computer, then you won't experience any of those problems. I would say, make sure the software you love and use often made the transition, as some of mine required extra work to get working again. Hopefully, you'll find the transition much smoother than I have.

Thanks for the comment -- as you'll see in a later post, I went ahead and upgraded. I have a bluetooth trackpad that I use, but it's the Apple trackpad. No issues with it and pairing... but then I'd expect that given it's Apple's product. If I were in your situation, I too would be supremely annoyed.

I upgraded, and I haven't had any problems with it so far. I'm on a MacBook.

Thanks for the comment -- I did the same as of last night. No problems.

M'wife drank the Apple kool-aid long ago. She downloaded Yosemite for her desktop as soon as it became available. Since then she's had three booked online interventions with the service guys, bumping up the hierarchy every time, to their very top super-duper mechanics; the machine continues to shut down randomly for no obvious reason (after a year and a half of working perfectly hitherto); on Monday we're taking it in to the Apple store for their local geniuses to poke at it physically.

Based on this data-point of one, I'd hold off unless you have a real reason to upgrade.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I went and upgraded last night, and thankfully everything went smoothly and quickly, and I've experienced no problems. Sorry your wife's had such a terrible experience, and hopefully the genii at the Apple Store can get things straightened out!
