Dear students: Please don't tell the class after your workshop session that you wrote your story or chapter the night before in three hours, and that's why there are so many problems with it.

To be honest, I entirely believe you -- and that's the issue. After all, your story has been on the schedule for several weeks now. I understand that you're trying to deflect all the criticism you just received with your "I wrote this last night at the absolute last minute" tale of woe. I do. Unfortunately, what you may not understand is that when you give that excuse, this is what I, your teacher who will be giving you your grade, actually hear:

"I didn't put any effort or thought into this assignment at all. I really don't give a damn about this class or what you've been saying."

I'm not suggesting you lie about your effort, per se... but this is a class on writing fiction. The least you can do is give us a better story about your story.
