I'm really liking the Seagull Performer I picked up used a few months back (via Devon) -- I've sanded down the saddle a bit to lower the action slightly. I love the sound of it both acoustic and amplified. Nice guitar. I'm definitely becoming a Seagull fan (I also have an older S6 acoustic model).

You can find out a lot about Seagulls (and Godin guitars in general) through the serial number. The number stamped on the back of the headstock tells me that my Performer was manufactured on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, and was the 196th guitar produced in the factory that week (of all models). The twelve digit number stamped on the label inside the body tells me that it's a model 029488, that it's not a factory second, and that it's the 26th guitar they made of this model.

And since the Performer models that Seagull currently lists look entirely different, I went to the Wayback Machine to pull the page for my version of the Performer. The current version has a solid spruce top with maple back and sides, and has Quantum 1 electronics; mine has a solid cedar top and wild cherry back and sides, and has the (more expensive) Quantum 2 electronics. On Ebay, there's currently a used Performer of the same model as mine for sale for $1300 -- that's rather overpriced, I think, but still... I'm amused, considering how little I paid for mine.

I'm still looking to sell my Ovation since I no longer need it. Want it?
