Reports from the Prius... In late May, Denise and I bought a new Toyota Prius, mostly because of the gas mileage. So after three months with the new car, here's the report:

Our average gasoline bill each month in the past (with a Chrysler Pacifica that managed a little over 18 MPG and a VW Jetta Turbo at around 23 MPG) was $341/month (averaging seven months of gas bills). In late May, we gave Devon the VW when we picked up the Prius.

In the three months we've had the Prius (which gets just a smidgen below 50 MPG overall), we've averaged a gas bill of $170/month -- so essentially, our gas expenditure has been cut in half. Mind you, this has been during the summer, when generally we're not using _both_ cars quite as much and the Pacifica has sat idle more than usual. I expect our average cost for gasoline will creep up a bit now that I'm back in school, but we'll see. I'm certain it will still be less.

If you take those savings off our monthly bill for the car, we have a really low monthly payment...
