Denise and I took the Great Circle route to Detcon in Detroit, going from Cincinnati to Niagara Falls, Canada, where we stayed with Hania for two nights, then to Toronto where we stayed with Susan Manchester for two nights, visited the Harpers, and tooled around the city a bit, then finally over to Detroit for the convention (which, BTW, was excellent...).

There were birds in Canada, so this week will be Canadian week for the Morning Bird Pics...

At the Falls, there were lots of bird, primarily herring gulls... Here are two of 'em -- one showing attitude, and another gliding through the mist near the base of the falls...

The top picture shows a Ring-billed Gull, not a Herring Gull. You can tell by the black ring around its bill. (Adult Herring Gulls have a red spot rather than a black ring.)

I really like the second photo.

That makes sense to me -- the identification was from the app "Birdsnap." Thanks!

I think Birdsnap has a ways to go yet before its IDs can be trusted. At least it gives you some idea of the possibilities though. Gulls can be very hard to ID in any case.
