You often find cardinals in mating pairs. Here's one of ours...

I usually see "my" cardinals in pairs. Recently, though, I've only seen the male. I assume the female is staying near the nest (I can hear the nestlings, though I've never figured out where the nest is.)

I used to really like cardinals, until a pair set up house across the street from me. They start singing at 4 frickin' thirty in the morning. ;)
