Pity (for us humans) that they have a call like pulling a rusty nail out of a board.
Another unexpectedly beautiful bird is the starling. It looks just sort of black until it's in bright sunlight.

I agree. I just took a pic of a starling on the feeder this morning -- they have interesting highlights in their feathers. And some of the videos I've seen of huge starling flocks flying are strangely mesmerizing.
