To the birds: Hey, the new restaurant's open. And it's free! All you have to do is amuse the cats who will be watching from the window. And we have quite a varied menu at the moment...

No Squirrels Allowed! No Wings, No Service.

Yeah, good luck with that.

What's all that green stuff and bare concrete I see? There's a notable absence of white ground covering.

I'm looking forward to your reports on which birds take advantage of your largesse. And how smart the squirrels in your neck of the woods turn out to be....

Our snow cover vanished (mostly) in the middle of last week, when we had several days in the 40s and even *gasp* the 50s.

I doubt, however, that winter will give up without at least one more lashing. Thursday, we're supposed to be back in the 30s. I'd've put up the bird feeder earlier this winter, except that the ground was too frozen...

Good luck with that. We have four squirrels helping with the kitty entertainment. When there's no snow, we also have chipmunks. (I leave the feeders up all year, which probably adds to the "furry bird" contingent....)

Yeah, I suspect our squirrels will be regular 'customers' as well... :-)

I've caught a squirrel in my feeder on the second floor balcony. I suspect it must have used a parachute to fly in from the maple tree whose outmost branches are about 5 metres away. :-)

Squirrels are clever. Raccoons are freaking geniuses... and they have opposable thumbs! :-)

Boy are they ever. I woke one day in a friend's summer house at the Edersee reservoir with two half grown raccoons curled up on my bed. The rascals weren't the least shy and had come in through the half open window. Turned out they had found the kitchen as well.

And they don't even belong in Germany.
