That's right -- March Madness comes to the SIlverton Cafe in the Round of Seven, as the members of TOAST! play against each other on stage this Friday night. Half of the toasty boys will be eliminated in this round, with only three and a half members being permitted to go on to the next gig.

Fill out your brackets now and place your bets in the office pool!

The smart money has SLeigh at a severe disadvantage, since his bass playing is much more effective on outside gigs, where his (thankfully infrequent) solos have brought torrential downpours that scattered the other players. Inside, he has to hope for a defective sprinkler system, which is much less likely. Dale Lewis will be wearing his checkered sneakers, which have a one-two punch: first, the severe disorientation caused by looking at them, and the stench that he can unleash by removing them. SG has already tweaked his sax mike so that it will feedback horribly during the first two songs, thus potentially driving the others from the band stand and leaving him open for laying up points with his Iwi. Rick is strong at keyboard, but his solos might be buried in the mix, and rumor has it that he injured his left hand attempting to dunk a Bach cantata at church a week ago. Tom Steele will conserve his energy by showing up late for equipment, then try to bull his way to score against the James Taylor tunes.

The real contest to watch is between Mike Russell and Tom Vogel. Tom will be attempting to sneak around Mike's "gong defense" with a shuffle beat, but the two appear to be evenly matched, especially since TV often ends up inadvertently throwing sticks around the stage. If one of those happen to land in the right place, he might walk away the winner.

So come and see TOAST! playing against several talented songs. Have a beer -- no, have several beers, as we'll sound better -- and root for your favorite song. Watch us flail and struggle on stage. Watch us all indulge in the Final Round.

We'll look to see you there!

TOAST! @ Silverton Cafe (7201 Montgomery Road in Silverton) this Friday evening from 8:30 - 12:30.
