I am so pleased that Rick Santorum swept the three states holding primaries/caucuses yesterday. I think Rick would be a terrific presidential candidate for the Republican party. I strongly urge the entire conservative base to rise up, abandon the Newt, and unite behind Santorum. Pile on the money so that he can run a viable national campaign. Rally the grassroots support he so desperately needs now, so that Mitt Romney continues his sudden freefall and ends up a sad and embittered ex-candidate when it comes to the GOP national convention.

Thank you, thank you, Colorado, Missouri, and Minnesota! You've given people like me a blessed ray of hope. I can only hope that when Rick is crowned as the nominee, that he'll also pick Michele Bachmann, whose views most closely match his own, as his running mate. I think that would be doubly terrific.

Go, Santorum!

Indeed - pass the popcorn! It's been really cathartic to watch the GOP implode. This extended primary season is probably saving the Democrats a ton of money they normally would have had to spend on oppo research for the eventual Republican nominee, given that the other nominees are doing the research for them! Personally, I'm really hoping for a brokered convention.

Mike Luckovich made an editorial cartoon about the Republican debates that featured someone asking, "Why are the Republicans making all those Obama campaign ads?"

I'm just glad Rick Perry dropped out. He wasn't quite as easy to outright ridicule as the survivors, and might have been able to pull a Dubya and portray himself as the candidate folks would most like to have a beer with, which, unfortunately, is the way to appeal to way too many voters.

Actually, the one I thought would have been the GOP's actual best candidate was Hunstman... Articulate, passionate, and with little apparent baggage.

Huntsman's not crazy enough to get votes in the primaries. He didn't have a chance of getting the nomination.

It would certainly improve the whole thing as a spectator sport for us foreigners!

I sometimes visualize a collective rest of the civilized world looking at American politics and just sadly shaking its head... but then the rest of the civilized world has had some pretty bizarre political twists and turns of its own.

Heinlein was at least partially right, and we may have a Nehemiah Scudder in 2012. Running, it is to be hoped, not winning and canceling America.

Still, for most of us, the only Republican worth voting for is Barack Obama.

Yeah, at least he's in the center, not so far right that he's lost in the religious haze.

I sense there may be a wee bit of snarky glee in this post. ;-)

What on earth do you mean? I was entirely serious. :-)

Oh, Rick. I just want to slap his smug baby face.
