Consider this your one month warning! I'll be GoH at Bubonicon 43 this August 26 - 28 in Albuquerque, NM. I know it's felt like we were in New Mexico for the last few weeks, only with 90% humidity to go with it. I'm looking forward to experiencing heat that doesn't feel like you're walking through a warm shower. And, of course, a very lovely air-conditioned hotel will house the convention.

And there are some very lovely people who will be there aside from me and Denise: George RR Martin, Melinda Snodgrass, Ian Tregillis (the Toastmaster who will rake me over the coals), Jon Picacio (the Artist GoH), Daniel Abraham, Mario Acevedo, Richard Berthold, David Boop, Stephen Boucher, Ben Bova, Serge Broom, Adam Jarmon Brown, Craig A. Butler, Aaron Campbell, Peri Charlifu, Suzy M. Charnas, Yvonne Coats, James S.A. Corey, Doranna Durgin, Jan “The Wombat” Finder, Ty Franck, Diana Gabaldon, Gordon Garb, Anne, Brian, and Rosie Gray, Janice Gelb, Steven Gould, Sally Gwylan, M.L.N. Hanover, Betsy James, Darynda Jones, Leonid Korogodski, Andy Kuhn, UNM Assistant Professor Maria D. Lane, Jane Lindskold, Bradford Lyau, Victor Milan, John Jos. Miller, Pati Nagle, Charles & Tauni Orndorff, Scott S. Phillips, John Maddox Roberts, Joan S. Saberhagen, Debbie Lynn Smith, Jan & S.M. Stirling, David Lee Summers, Sam Sykes, Robert E. Vardeman, Carrie Vaughn, Walter Jon Williams, Connie Willis…

I mean, where else are you going to find this kind of incredible line-up of talent in one place? Huh? OMG!

Here's my tentative list of programming items (which may change before the con):

Friday, 5:00 PM: NAME THAT BABY: FANTASY, SF, MAINSTREAM? OR NONE OF THE ABOVE? Suzy M. Charnas, Betsy James, Stephen Leigh, David Lee Summers. Moderator: Victor Milan

Friday, 6:00 PM: OPENING CEREMONIES

Saturday, 11:00 AM: 50 MINUTES WITH Stephen Leigh & S.L. Farrell --I'm assuming that this is a reading slot (and I have a great story that's become my favorite to read!), but I could be wrong...

Saturday, 1:00 PM: RE-INVENTING YOURSELF: THE USE OF PSEUDONYMS: Ty Franck, Stephen Leigh, Victor Milan, Carrie Vaughn. Moderator: Daniel Abraham

Saturday 5:30 PM: EBOOKS TO THE RESCUE? THE FUTURE OF READING: Stephen Leigh, Pati Nagle, Ian Tregillis, Robert Vardeman. Moderator: Steven Gould

Sunday, 11:00 AM: GUEST OF HONOR PRESENTATION Stephen Leigh – Introduced by Ian Tregillis, our Toastmaster, and Interviewed by GRR Martin -- Here's the one that scares me! Ian gets to roast me, then George is going to lay bare all my secrets -- because he knows far too many of them -- in an interview. AARGH!!!

Sunday 3:20 PM: TELL THE PROS: FAN FEEDBACK & WISH LIST: Peri Charlifu, Suzy M. Charnas, Diana Gabaldon, Stephen Leigh, Debbie Lynn Smith. Host In Audience: Adam Jarmon Brown

Sunday 4:45: CLOSING CEREMONIES

All right, you only have a month to get things together and make sure you're in Albuquerque for Bubonicon. A delightful time is guaranteed for all. Honestly, I'm really looking forward to this as I've heard incredible things about Bubonicon from the Santa Fe/Albuquerque writers for DECADES, and I'm really pleased to finally get out there to see what they've been talking about.

I hope to be able to see you there too!

Oh, it's going to be a good one!

One of the best parts of the convention is the 'mass signing' held on Saturday, where the concom rounds up as many writers as they can, puts them at tables in the main function space, and you can go from writer to writer with your pile of books for signatures.

Just the high number of WILD CARDS writers makes it worth going to the signing event.

HAve already made many cunning plans regarding your visit, hope you and Denise will enjoy the entire time you're in the Land of Enchantment.

Anne, Dr. Brian and Rose Gray are moving to Albuquerque in August from Ann Arbor so you might see them too.

Hard to keep Anne away from a convention in her own city.

I did not read through it, Anne does not waste much time does she!

If I wasn't going to France on Sept. 2 I'd be there. Sigh.

Well, if I weren't going to Albuquerque, I'd be going to... well, to school, since the semester will have started that week. :-) Have fun in France! Eat some fromage for us!
