Devon had an excellent observation and idea in a conversation last night. He asked me how many unique visitors go to my website. Google Analytics can give me that answer, at least since I set it up a year and a half ago: in that time, I've had 6,613 unique visitors. "OK," Devon said, "you're always trying to reach the people who like what you write -- and these are all people who have been interested enough in your writing that they checked out your website. You need to have something there so that you can contact them when you have news, like when you put THE WOODS online. If they only hit your website once every six months, they'll miss that. Why not ask them to give you their email address so you can send them news when you have it: an occasional newsletter?"

Made sense to me...

So, if you go to the front page of the website, you'll find a clicky link that'll pop up your email program to send me notice that you'd like to be on The List. Yeah, that means you'll get the occasional email from me, but I promise I won't do it often. And just to spice the pot, I'll also run the occasional contest from that list. In fact, once I hit 100 contacts, I'll run a contest for a signed set of hardcovers of the Nessantico Cycle or the Cloudmages series, winner's choice.

If you're interested, head over to the website, click the link, and you'll be entered in the contest! What have you got to lose?

I wish that all authors and musicians would have an RSS feed that just sends out updates when they have a new book available.

I know that it's more complex than that, what with there being new variants of old books, collections of stories, etc. But really, all I want is something that pops up in my reader that says "[Name] just released [book]. You can buy it at [link]." Ideally, where [link] is the place that allows the the creator gets the maximum compensation.
