Several years back, as my Master's thesis, I wrote a novel.  I still love that novel, but I'm not certain how easily it fits into genre expectations. It's maybe dark fantasy, maybe young adult (since the protagonists are young), maybe something approaching magic realism.  Depending on how you view the story, it may not be a fantasy at all as it's possible it's all in the main character's head.  [Poll #1721974]

How do your other ebooks sell? (I assume the mainstream books also have ebook versions anyway...)

And what's your goal? Get it out as quickly and painlessly as possible and forget about it? Make money? Help it find its audience? I'm not terribly hung up on the idea of publishers as gatekeepers, but I really like the idea of "people who handle the marketing crap so I won't have to."

I don't know enough to know whether you should try the traditional markets first. If you do the e-book thing I'll consider buying it. I prefer paper books but I I'd rather have an e-book than no book at all. I will buy ebooks from authors I know I like, assuming that the price and format are reasonable.

I would love to read it, either ebook or print.
I think it depends on how you intend to market it if you do this on your own. Not helpful, I know.
