Paul Krugman suggests not caving in to Republicans holding the tax cuts hostage against any other legislation. Frankly, I agree with him: let 'em expire rather than giving in.
However, I doubt that Obama or the Dems in Congress will do that. I fully expect them to bend over compliantly.

Unfortunately, that would be spun in 2012 as "Obama let the tax breaks for the middle class expire!" Somehow I doubt the Dems would have the stones to run their own "The GOP held middle class tax breaks hostage and ultimately murdered them" ads.
