Just a warning -- this is one of those self-serving, advertisement-type posts where I'm suggesting you might want to buy one of my books and line my pockets with your hard-earned silver. So if you want to bail, now's the time...

OK, this one's not really a new book. In fact, it's about ten years old... Way back in 2001, I published a novel called THUNDER RIFT under the pseudonym of "Matthew Farrell." I've had two regrets about that: firstly, that the original title I had for the book was lost (because the Marketing Department said it was too "quiet"); secondly, because I was convinced to use the pseudonym rather than letting it come out as a "Stephen Leigh" book.

It's a book I'm proud to have written; I was pleased to find in re-reading it after a decade that I still like it... quite a lot, actually. I love first contact stories, and I was pleased with the alien race and culture I built in this one, and their interaction with us. I also like the backstory that's interwoven in with the main plotline, which hopefully echoes the thematic content. At its heart, this is a story of cultural misreadings, for both the aliens and for the main character of the story.

Luckily, Shahid at Arc Manor Books/Phoenix Pick (who reprinted my DARK WATER'S EMBRACE and SPEAKING STONES) also read the book back then and loved it, and wanted to know if he could bring back the book: with the original title and under my actual name. So...

I'm pleased to announce that THE SHAPE OF SILENCE by Stephen Leigh is now available at amazon.com in both trade paperback and Kindle formats, and also at B&N in trade paperback.

So... if you haven't read THUNDER RIFT by Matthew Farrell, now you can -- it's just under a new title and byline. If you'd like to re-read it -- either in trade paperback or Kindle format -- you can do that too, and just in time for the holidays!

I do want to reiterate: this is a reprint. There's no new material in this version of the novel that wasn't in the original (though we've cleaned up several small errors that were in the original text). I don't want anyone buying this thinking that it's a new novel or that the novel's been significantly changed. It hasn't...

But if you'd like to read it, or you'd like to replace that old mass market paperback with a shiny new trade paperback, or if you'd like to add it to your Kindle, you can now go and do so!

Wow. I like 'The shape of silence' *much* better than 'Thunder rift'. Silly marketing people. I look forward to reading it!

It's interesting that they changed a "quiet" title to an actively noisy one. I like quiet titles; more subtle that way.

I bought it for my Kindle.

I'm not sure, but I think I saved $2 because I bought the book while in India.
