CNN is reporting that Clint McCance, the vice president of the Midland, Arkansas school board has posted on his Facebook page that he "...wanted gay people to commit suicide, according to The Advocate, a newspaper focusing on gay news. McCance used the terms "queer" and "fag" repeatedly, promised to disown his own children if they were gay, and stated that he enjoys "the fact that [gay people] often give each other AIDS and die." He went on to say, regarding the wearing of purple in remembrance of the young gay people who recently committed suicide that: "Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers committed suicide. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed therselves because of their sin." (sic)

I note that the article goes on to state that the superintendent of the Midland schools has "strongly disavowed" the remarks, but otherwise the board has done nothing about firing, removing, or censuring this raving bigot.

The article does note that as an elected official, the board doesn't have the power to remove him from office/fire him.

Yes. I can only hope that he doesn't get reelected next time he's up for it.

Now there is nothing saying he can't be tarred, feathered, and strung up... Wait, that's a crime now? Crap.

While I find the expressed bigotry appalling, I did note also that his posting was locked, not public. Someone violated his privacy settings to make his rant public knowlege.

It bothers me that everyone just accepts this 21st century window-peeping as normal and expected. McCance is a jerk, but he's not the only one in this story.
