I poured myself a couple fingers of the Lagavulin last night... I've just signed two book contracts with DAW Books! Both of these will be "urban fantasies" set in the current day, though the first of them has several sections which will be set in time anywhere from the 14th century onward, so it's both urban fantasy and historical fantasy. Tentative (very tentative) titles) are "Muse" and "Crow of Connemara." Both books sold entirely from synopses, and I've just recently begun the actual writing of the first -- so it'll be some time before either one actually shows up in your bookstore. Don't go looking yet. :-)

But hey, I've sold two more books! (Does happy dance...)

That's especially welcome news since after the completion of A MAGIC OF DAWN late last year, I was in that horrid literary limbo of having no future book contracts. This is not a good place for a writer, where you're constantly wondering whether you're ever going have another contract. Not wondering anymore, though! Yay!

Now I actually have to write the books. I'm really excited about both of these, and I'm currently around 3,000 words into the first one: still a l-o-o-o-o-n-g way to go yet...

Yay! More good books to write for you; more good books to read for me. Win-win.

Congratulations!!! That's excellent news!

Do you mind if I ask how long the synopses were? (Being in the same position of having no contracts with DAW once the work in progress is done...)

Jim -- The first one was just a shade over 6,000 words, which (frankly) makes it the longest synopsis I've ever given someone. The second one was just a shade under 3,000 words -- a more normal length, I think.

Congratulations! Urban fantasies? Are they unrelated since you mentioned synopses?

Yes, unrelated to each other, and (at least for the nonce) standalone as well.

Most excellent news! Always good to know there are more good books to look forward to in the not too distant future.

Contract with DAW is on my list of goals - I am most dazzled by your accomplishment. ;)
