A new NY Times and CBS poll has come up with some interesting facts and figures regarding Tea Party members.

They tend to be Republican. Not surprising there -- which tells me, frankly, that Democrats should worry exactly zero about anything the Tea Party folk say because hey, they're not going to vote for you anyway. So don't pay any attention to their noise.

They tend to be Caucasian. Also not a surprise -- look at the photos of any random Tea Party gathering; it's about as white bread as it gets.

They tend to be male. OK, I guess.. though I've seen plenty of women in attendance.

They tend to be older than 45. Again, the photos I've seen of random Tea Party events backs that up: it's an older crew, with not too many young-looking people around.

They tend to "more conservative views on a range of issues than Republicans generally." Again -- in that case -- why does any Democrat or liberal politician even bother trying to placate them? Look, dummy, you're not going to get their vote. Ever..

They are wealthier than the general population. So what's the problem when you're better off than the general population, when the economic malaise isn't affecting you as much as others?

Why are they so damned pissed off at the government? "The overwhelming majority of supporters say Mr. Obama does not share the values most Americans live by and that he does not understand the problems of people like themselves. More than half say the policies of the administration favor the poor, and 25 percent think that the administration favors blacks over whites — compared with 11 percent of the general public... They are more likely than the general public, and Republicans, to say that too much has been made of the problems facing black people."

The administration favors blacks over whites, and Obama doesn't understand people like themselves, eh?

You mean: relatively well-off white people?

OK, I think I get it...

Except that their movement might energize the right-wing GOTV drive.

Relatively well-off ignorant white people.

Cause, ya know, I'm a relatively well-off white person, and I think Obama gets it.
