The news is filtering out that President Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize. This is a real WTF for me...

I voted for Obama because yes, he did have a vision of international cooperation and understanding that dovetailed nicely with my own. But... I'm sorry. but as of yet he's done nothing that deserves the Nobel Peace Prize other than talk a nice game. He hasn't been in office long enough to have accomplished anything of lasting import. Maybe he will (I hope he will) in coming months and years. But not yet.

President Obama doesn't deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, and the only reason I can see for the Committee to have awarded it to him is because they're so overjoyed that our previous administration has departed that their happiness has blinded them. Sorry, Nobel Committee, I can only shake my head and hope that one day forward, you might actually have retroactive reasons to have given Obama this award, because you certainly don't have those reasons yet.

LOL. I was shaking my head, too. The Nobel Peace Prize has always been pretty political, and they've made stranger choices in the past. The Obama mystique has pretty much always been about his potential, not his actual accomplishments.

What you said.

I would say that Obama hasn't earned the Prize (quibbling over "doesn't deserve"). He certainly has shown the potential.

If they wanted to make a political statement, they should have given Bill Clinton his long-overdue honor for the Good Friday Accord, the Dayton Accord, and the good work of the Clinton Foundation.

I'm guessing that (besides their making a huge political statement), the Nobel Committee is saying that just getting elected president in our current political climate is some sort of massive accomplishment. That's a not very nice but perhaps accurate analysis of our political machine. :(

First reaction was astonishment, but other than that, I haven't made up my mind yet.

This was interesting. (http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/10/obamas-prize-for-peace.html)

A friend from another circle said that Obama won it for bringing democracy back to the region. :)
