Okay, so being new to this wild, wonderful world. Am I supposed to have a picture that represents me? It looks kind of fun, but my brain hurts from the flu, and I can't cope with anything that is the least bit hard. :)
Melinda! Hey, I wasn't aware you had an LJ account also -- I'll have to go and friend you...
You don't have to have an icon, but most people do. In fact, most people have several. You can upload them into your LJ account -- look under your Profile for "Manage Userpics." The file(s) you upload need to be .jpgs at no more than 100 x 100 pixels, I believe.
I just went to your website, snatched the picture you have on the index page, cropped it square and scaled it down to 100 x 100. I'll send it to you via e-mail as an example -- you can use it or not as you wish...
I am thinking about returning to the dojo after being off for five yers recovering from having yet another baby in my forties, a hysterectomy, and homeschooling three kids.
I don't have any icons. sigh. I am not very computer literate. love, Kas
I was wondering if you were still practicing, Steve. Glad to hear I'm not the only plus fifty SF writer falling down on a regular basis. (Well, there is Mikey and Greg Frost, I guess.)
Well damn... I noticed a misspelling in my reply, and then stupidly deleted it before I copied it. Hmmm... What did I say? Something about how at 56, my knees definitely don't like aikido as much as they once did (I don't think they ever liked it, but...). I try to avoid kneeling techniques (suwari waza) and I don't intend to ever test again, so I'll remain 3rd dan for the foreseeable future. I've been really off and on with aikido for the last few years while I was getting a Master degree, but I've started going back with some regularity over the last six months or so. I'm still getting back mobility and stamina (not to mention that I could stand to drop 20 pounds -- that'd help the knees more than anything.)
But hey, now that I'm writing a new reply, I can use the aiki icon... :-) (The blur in the air is me...)
I never thought I'd reach third dan (it was sprung on at a seminar recently--no test involved though I did have to do a demo on O'Sensei's memorial day.) I am so with you on the losing twenty pounds bit. Oddly enough, my knees are improving with regular practice, though. Ditto stamina though I've had a low-grade something lately that's draining the energy a bit.
I'm grateful though, everyone else in the family has been sick as a dog.
