According to this report, Orson Scott Card has joined the Board of Directors for the National Organization for Marriage, the group that brought out the much-mocked and parodied "Gathering Storm" ad.

Color me unfortunately not surprised.

Color me unsurprised, but also saddened. It'd be better if I didn't like the Ender books so much, I suppose. :-(

It's always struck me as really odd how somebody who makes a career writing about the endless possibilities of the future can be so retro in their thinking.

Shocked! Just Shocked!

Isn't that the nice ad Stephen Colbert had on? ;-)

No longer shocked, though sad ... 10 years ago I would have been shocked beyond all belief, but I've since learned more about what dorks people can be. :P

What is it about some people, becoming reactionary cranks in middle age? This isn't even the only SF writer who fits the description!

It's like watching The 700 Club and the Weather Channel at the same time!

The sad thing is, I've heard from fans that have seen him at conventions and booksignings say he was very sweet and pleasant to them. Unlike some other big name authors that brush their fans off. Wonder how he'd react if he thought he was shaking hands with Teh Gay.

I hadn't seen the parody videos before, but they're hilarious. I especially like the Gaythering Storm one -- SULU!! :D

In fact, I've never been to that site before (at least that I can recall) -- it's certainly not one of the sites I check regularly. Another friend had mentioned the Card connection to the Gathering Storm video in an e-mail; I googled it and that was one of the sites that came up with the news...

Their acronym is NOM? ::snort::

No, not surprised.

Yes, and their campaign in Two Million for Marriage, which they conveniently pre-abbreviated 2M4M :-)

Although NOM probably goes better with the teabagging parties on April 15th...

"Color me unfortunately not surprised."

The only thing that would surprise me more would be if he started writing good stories again.

I'll never know if he starts writing good stories again because I just won't be buying his stuff.
