DAW Books was kind enough to send me a couple ARCs (Advanced Reading Copy) of A MAGIC OF NIGHTFALL, which will be out in hardcover in March. Now, for those of you not familiar with ARCs, an ARC is a bound copy of the uncorrected galleys, in trade paperback format -- which means you get to see all the mistakes which (hopefully) will have been caught for the final release. The publishers send ARCS to reviewers and other Special People. This particular ARC is also bound with a color copy of the cover (some ARCs have plain paper covers).

I will give away a signed (and personalized, if you wish) copy of the ARC to someone on 12/25. Here's how the contest will work:

Step 1) Go out and buy a book: for yourself or for someone else. I don't care which. Nor does it have to be one of my books -- it can be anyone's book, fiction or non-fiction. But it has to be a physical book. Not an e-book, not an online download, but a book made of dead trees. Now -- this will be on the honor system. I will take your word that you have bought a book...

Step 2) Send me an e-mail to sleigh (AT) farrellworlds.com -- you'll have to replace the (AT) with the appropriate symbol and get rid of the spaces, of course. Subject header should be "ARC contest". Tell me what book you bought, and why. Also, give me your snail mail address and tell me to whom you want the book signed, just in case you win!

Step 3) There is no Step 3. There is no Step 3

I will put all the entry names in a hat -- literally -- sometime on 12/25, have Denise or one of the kids draw out one of the slips, and announce the winner. You, the lucky winner, will then get an ARC of A MAGIC OF NIGHTFALL in the mail sometime soon thereafter. Who knows, maybe if I get lots of entries, I may let a second one go...

Then, for two months (and maybe three) you'll be able to tell other people "Nyah, nyah, nyah! I've read the book and you haven't, you loser!" Wouldn't that be special? I thought so!

ENTER TODAY! SUPPLIES ARE (VERY) LIMITED!

So, let me get this straight.

You're offering me a prize in an attempt to deprive me of the pleasure of purchasing my own copy of A Magic of Nightfall when it's available for purchase?

Spoilsport.

Well, not really. Think of the immense fun you could have comparing the uncorrected galleys with the actual published text!
