OK -- the writing news that I couldn't tell you before...

Arc Manor, a relatively new small press, contacted me a few months back asking if I'd be interested in their reprinting DARK WATER'S EMBRACE and SPEAKING STONES, because, as Shahid Mahmud, the publisher, said: "I read “Dark Water’s Embrace” (and “Speaking Stones” soon after) and loved the book(s). I still consider it to be one of the most inventive and thought provoking sci-fi books I have read in the last couple of decades..."

So, after putting him in touch with my agent, we now have an agreement. Arc Manor (through their sf/fantasy imprint "Phoenix Pick") will be reprinting both books, starting with DARK WATER'S EMBRACE. I don't know the exact release date at this point, but since the news is up on their site, I figured I might as well mention it here.

I'm very pleased by this, since DWE and its sequel SS are still two of my very favorite books. DWE, for what it's worth, garnered several excellent reviews when it was released (and won the Spectrum Award for Best Novel). I'm glad that they'll both be available for people to pick up again and read. And hey, this'll actually be the first time one of my books will be in trade paperback format.

If I may:

Steven H Silver on Dark Water's Embrace: "The culture which Leigh builds is well thought out and, although based on human society, it differs from any societies which exist on earth. Leigh shows people coming to terms with a difficult situation as well as the power that peer pressure has, especially in small groups. He sets this society on an interesting world which was once populated by aliens with a very different outlook on life and civilization which, while not as complete as the human society, shows signs of its own complexity."

Oh, cool! That's very neat. I enjoyed those books too. And Gaylaxicon is doing some sort of Spectrum award retrospective this weekend and I'll be there, so I'll keep you posted if/when they mention DWE.

Do let me know. I was pleased to have received the Spectrum Award, especially because it came totally out of the blue -- I wasn't aware of the award nor that DWE had been nominated for it until the announcement was made.

Awesome. Now do a signing somewhere local for me, like Joseph Beth or sumpin. ;)

I'm sure I'll have a local signing at some point, if not for DWE, then for A MAGIC OF NIGHTFALL in March.

Mazal tov! And even nicer news that the publisher is doing the reprint because of love of the material. Nice compliment to you!

That's what was extra pleasing about it -- the publisher came to me because he really wanted to put the books back into print.

Congratulations

It's nice to have those coming back into print. They are wonderful books. *chuckle* In fact I just put Dark Water's Embrace in my list of boundary-pushing fiction today.

Re: Congratulations

I noticed that -- and thanks! I still remember the lovely review you gave the book Way Back When. :-)

Re: Congratulations

*bow, flourish* It's a good book and deserves the attention. I find it useful as an example in many different contexts.
