John McCain cancelled his appearance on the Dave Letterman Show two hours before he was to appear, calling Dave and telling him that he had to fly to Washington and take care of the economic crisis and therefore he couldn't be there. This (understandably) irritated Letterman, who launched a series of jibes at the McCain/Palin ticket and their readiness to lead.

It gets worse. With last-minute replacement Keith Olberman sitting in the chair -- Letterman discovered that McCain wasn't taking care of the economy, but was giving an interview to Katie Couric of CBS. The Letterman show played the live feed from Couric's studio, with McCain having make-up applied to his face just before the interview... "Now, he doesn't seem to be racing back to the airport, does he?" Letterman comments. "This just gets uglier and uglier. Hey, John! I've got a question -- you need a ride to the airport?"

Here's the video, if interested.

Saving the economy? $700BN.

Blowing off David Letterman for Katie Couric? Priceless.

Sorry -- that was me posting anoymously by mistake.

As I said, McCain is on the edge of irrationality. Teetering.

My favorite Letterman quote in this debacle: "What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"
