Despite school starting up again a few weeks ago, despite Ike's Remnant-Sale Midwestern Windstorm, I've still managed to get a fair amount of work done. I've finished the draft of my novella-length piece for SUICIDE KINGS, the third book of the latest Wild Cards triad, though there will undoubtedly be another round of rewrites once George puts all six writers' parts together and sees how they fit.

I'm in the midst of the final draft for A MAGIC OF NIGHTFALL, which is due in to Sheila in early October. That should be done easily on time (which will make Sheila happy, since NIGHTFALL's already scheduled for March, '09...). I'm really happy with this book...

And as soon as that's done, it's back to A MAGIC OF DAWN, which has been whining and crying piteously in the corner while I've been working on the other two projects.

My short story "Encounter" will be reprinted in WHEN DIPLOMACY FAILS, an anthology edited by Mike Resnick and Eric Flint, which will be sold by ISFIC Press at Windycon.

And there's a bit of other good news that I can't reveal quite yet -- not until I have the signed contracts in hand. I've signed them on my end, but I'd still prefer to wait so as not to jinx things... Soon!

Strange: sometimes the more you have on your plate to do, the more you actually manage to accomplish.

Because when you have less to do, you figure, "Oh, I can put that off for a while..." When you're loaded down, you get into "I better get cracking!" mode.

I think that's often very true. There's an old business adage that goes "If you want something done, give it to the busiest person."
