I sent out my "Holiday" newsletter this morning. If you've signed up for the newsletter, it should be in your inbox. If you haven't signed up, why not? You can do that on the front page of my website: http://www,farrellworlds.com
It's not Toast, but a bit of crust!
The Davis Leigh Duo at the College Hill Coffee Company in (duh) College Hill, this Friday, December 5th, 7:30 to 9:30!
Share the music, the food, the coffee, the desserts, and the selected wine & beers! Mark and Steve are both veterans of the local music scene. Mark Davis (as part of Kinney Davis) has appeared on several of WNKU’s albums; Steve Leigh also plays in the band Toast, and goes back all the way back to Bluestone Ivory in 1970s. Together, Mark & Steve perform an eclectic blend of interesting tunes, several of which should never be attempted by a self-respecting acoustic duo... but they do them anyway.
Come to CHCC and join the fun!
The College Hill Coffee Company is located at the corner of North Bend and Hamilton. Mark and Steve will be playing there from 7:30 to 9:30 -- which means you have plenty of time afterward to do "other things." We'd REALLY appreciate if you came out so we actually have an audience! We need you! Honest, we do! And you can point at us and laugh if you'd like. We don't care -- we just crave attention. Any attention.
We hope to see you this weekend! Again: this Friday night. College Hill Coffee Company. 7:30 - 9:30. Great coffee, great food, great wine and beer... and something resembling music.
We hope to see you there! Why, here's a snapshot of a table of our fans at our last gig. Don't you want to meet them?

DAW has sent lots of books to Patrick Rothfuss for his "Worlbuilders" charity, among them several copies of the hardcover of IMMORTAL MUSE. Why, you could get one!

I received incredibly sad news today that Ted Donohoue has passed away. Ted and I went to high school together, and he and I would play together in Bluestone Ivory from 1969 until Ted left the group not long before its demise in 1977. Ted was the guitarist, I was the bassist, and Ted and I shared the lead vocal duties. As with nearly every band, there were the occasional tensions between Ted and me, as there times when both of us wanted to take the vocal on a particular song, but usually we knew which one of would be best for a tune. Ted was an exceptionally fine rock guitarist, could copy flawlessly nearly any lick he heard, and he was certainly one of the reasons that BSI gained its local popularity during those years.
Ted and I would fall out of touch after he left BSI for a more lucrative position in a show band and was traveling a lot. He eventually returned to Cincinnati, and we would come into occasional contact, though never on any regular basis. Still, it's a shock to know that someone with whom I shared so much time and passion for music is gone now.
I regret that I never made the time to sit down with Ted and jam together in recent years. I would have liked that... Ted, you'll be missed -- by me, as well as by those people who knew you far better in recent years.
Here's a live recording (and not a great one, alas) of BSI playing "What Is Hip" at the Boar's Head in 1976. Ted's on lead vocal...
