Toast is playing at DeSha's in Harper's Point (http://tavernrestaurantgroup.com/deshas_cinci.php) this Saturday from 7:30 to 11:30. Having just performed at the wedding reception of the daughter of Our Two Greatest Fans, John and Gloria, we're primed (ribbed) and ready to meet our adoring public once again. Well, we would be if Steve's amp were working... But hey, it's DeSha's and given the corner we have to set up in, Steve won't be bringing his amp. Having studied the techniques of Tuvan throat singing in a Tibetan monastery for the last three days, Steve will be using that technique rather than his bass guitar. Wait until you hear him simultaneously sing the wrong words to "God Bless The Child" while also providing the low notes. People who have heard him have said things like "It's indescribable, for which you should be grateful" or "I just wish I could un-hear it."
The rest of the band is pumped as well. Rick has put together a set list which includes "The Chicken Dance" in all three sets. Twice in each set, in fact. Tom Steele has memorized the words to "Rocky Top" though the band hasn't been able to master the complex chord structure -- he'll be doing an a cappella version. Mr. Steele will also be featured on the "Girl From Ipanema / Proud Mary / Stairway to Heaven" medley. Tom Vogel has been actively learning how to use his kitchen broom as a brush on his snare so he can play jazz standards. SG won't be bringing either his sax, flute, or Iwi this week, but will instead debut his skills on tin slide whistle -- wait until you hear his solo arpeggios on "Aqualung"! Dale Lewis has polished his checked sneakers, counted his socks, and removed all his body hair in preparation. Mike Russell has questioned his sanity in joining the group; his sanity has not yet deigned to give him a reply.
What we need to make this a completely wonderful evening is YOU! Yeah, that's right -- we mean YOU! Come on out, have some fun listening to the group, and eat some good food. The last time we played at DeSha's the place was filled, so get there in time to grab some seats!
