Who's going to Worldcon?

I am. I have plane tickets, a room I'm sharing, and a membership. Oh, and a couple panels: one Thursday at 1:00 (Magic & Science: Who can tell the difference?) and one Saturday at 11:30 (Wild Cards). And probably a dinner/lunch or two with Sheila. And hopefully lots of fun other stuff.

See you there?

Hmmm.

I guess I should maybe think about attending another Worldcon one of these days. It's been a while. A long while. Since, um, Iguanacon, I do believe. I guess that was a while ago, wasn't it? Hmmmm....

Re: Hmmm.

Just by coincidence, Iguanacon was the first Worldcon that Denise and I attended... :-)

Re: Hmmm.

Great icon!

It would be wonderful to see you in Denver. From a timing and planning standpoint, I'll mention that you might really like Montreal and there's this Worldcon there next August....

Thanks to the help of 8 marvelous friends in 6 different states, I'll be there helping with the Reno parties throughout the convention. Please do come and party with us!

So are you being carpooled across those United States?

Being handed off at state lines?

Shades of worldcon goers back in the 50's.

Grin.

It looks like 6 states could get me as far as Kansas, if we don't count the one I'm leaving from, but in this case, we get to fast-forward those 50+ years. Friends in one state are providing the free parking and ride to the airport, a friend in another state covered the ticket, friends in another are picking me up at that end and putting me up for a few days before the convention, and also providingmuch running-around support, too. They are joined by friends in two more states who are giving me crash space during the convention, one of which comes with four days of breakfast. That brings us up to state #6 and the friend there who's offered to take me to dinner one night.

Even with all of that incredible and marvelous support, I doubt that I'll manage to stay within the meager $12/day budget I have allocated for the trip. What I do know is that I'll come darned close and some birthday money from my Dad should help fill the gap. I'll have jewelry and fanzines for sale, but all proceeds from "Shop at Geri's" go to debt reduction rather than trip expenses.

I'm thrilled to be going at all, and deeply honored and appreciative of all the help that's making it possible.

Yep that sounds like Roger Sims' epic trip to SFCon in San Francisco in 1954.

The fans got there from the Detroit/Ohio area by delivering a car to the Bay area and came home by bus, hitchhiking and USAF.

I'm going, I'm going, but I think you knew that already. :>) I've got three panels. Yikes.

I'll be there. Hopefully I'll see you at the DAW dinner at least. But I'd be willing to party hard on a few nights if you're up to it. *grin*

I'm looking forward to meeting you "in real life," Joshua!

I'll be there.. on a few urban fantasy panels and of course wherever the booze is flowing...

If other cons I've been to are any indicator, oh hell yes!

And apparently there are panels and programming, but the real action is almost always in a bar or a suite...

I will be there. I will be overseeing the Children's Services. Maybe I will be free enough to catch one of your panels.

Wow, you have a lot of responsibility! Hope it all goes smoothly for you! Back when our kids were much younger, we used to take advantage of Children's Services.

Not us. The last worldcon I went to was San Jose in 2002 and I think I may have only gone for one day. I don't think I went to ConFrancisco in 1993 because I may have been in Germany at the time. So I guess before that it was Iguanacon in 1978, SunCon in 1977, MidAmeriCon in 1976, Discon II in 1974. So maybe a total of 5. I've come to the conclusion that I'm not that much of a fan of large numbers of people in a relatively small space.

Have fun!

I'll be there. I have... um... hang on... I think six things, four panels, a kaffeklatch and a reading spread over Thursday to Sunday. Although now I'm looking at it, I may not do the Sunday as it'll make checking out a major pain.

See you at the DAW dinner if no where else! Although, hopefully, elsewhere...

My, they're working you hard! But yes, the DAW dinner at the very least, but I'd love to get together at some point just to chat and catch up. You bringing your guitar? (I'm not...)
