Some choice quotes from Mitt Romney's 'resignation' speech that you didn't get on CNN:

"The threat to our culture comes from within. In the 1960s, there were welfare programs that created a culture of poverty in our country." (Welfare is responsible for poverty? Really? Because, after all, poor people really enjoy being poor...)

"The attack on faith and religion is no less relentless. And tolerance for pornography, even celebration of it, and sexual promiscuity, combined with the twisted incentives of government welfare, have led to today's grim realities: 68 percent of African- American kids born out of wedlock, 45 percent of Hispanic kids, 25 percent of white kids." (Pornography is the reason why kids (especially non-white ones) are born out of wedlock? Why, I never realized that! I'm going to have to burn my copy of 'The Story of O.' Quick, get me a lighter!)

"The development of a child is enhanced by having a mother and a father. Such a family is the ideal for the future of the child and for the strength of the nation. I wonder how it is that unelected judges, like some in my state of Massachusetts, are so unaware of this reality, so oblivious to the millennia of recorded history. It's time for the people of America to fortify marriage through a constitutional amendment, so that liberal judges cannot continue to attack it." (Those damned liberal judges! It's their fault that kids don't have moms and dads. I'm surprised he didn't call here for a constitutional amendment to outlaw divorce. Huckabee would have.)

"Europe is facing a demographic disaster. That's the inevitable product of weakened faith in the Creator: failed families, disrespect for the sanctity of human life, and eroded morality." (If you don't believe in God, society falls apart. And you'd better believe in my version of God, too, damn it. And what is 'demographic disaster' code for? Not enough white people?)

"It is high time to lower taxes, including corporate taxes, to take a weed whacker... (APPLAUSE) Get out -- get out that weed whacker and take it to regulations and reform entitlements and, by the way, stand up to the increasingly voracious appetite of the unions in our government." ('Cause you know damn well that it's the working stiffs and not management that causes all the problems in Corporate America.)

"I've given this a lot of thought -- I'd forestall the launch of a national campaign and, frankly, I'd make it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win. Frankly, in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror." (Because if we put that black guy or that woman in the White House, the terrorists will have already won. Heaven help us if we actually start talking to those who disagree with us rather than threatening them...)

Bye, Mitt. I'd say thank you for leaving, but I suspect you'd have been the easiest one to beat...

You know, I keep wondering why Republicans just don't start taxing fornication. I mean, think of the money they'd raise! That way honest corporations and married couples would never have to spend a dime.

And what is 'demographic disaster' code for? Not enough white people?

Clearly, us white Europeans need to start tolerating more pornography! Which might be tricky, I'm already tolerating it as hard as I can!

This IS a call for a constitutional amendment to forbid liberal judges from attacking marriage: that is, adjudicating divorce. I'm astonished that you misinterpreted this.

I'm going to give Romney the benefit of the doubt as far as 'demographic disaster' goes and assume that refers to 'not enough kids, due to too much abortion and contraception' rather than 'too many brown people' (though the immigration issue probably intersects at some point).

That's as far as I'm able to give him, though. The rest is dangerous drivel. The thought that this is the guy many Americans wanted to be President is scary. The dig about a Dem victory being a 'surrender to terror' is particularly low, but all if it is a pretty peculiar version of Christian values. All about the judgement, rather than the love. (Not that I am a Christian, but I used to be.)

Ok.
"The threat to our culture comes from within. In the 1960s, there were welfare programs that created a culture of poverty in our country." (Welfare is responsible for poverty? Really? Because, after all, poor people really enjoy being poor...)"
He doesn't know from poor. LDS families have support in their religion... He should talk to someone like... my mom! who dealt with the Great Depression as a kid with a single mom. And in the 1930's that just wasn't done. That's poverty.

""The attack on faith and religion is no less relentless. And tolerance for pornography, even celebration of it, and sexual promiscuity, combined with the twisted incentives of government welfare, have led to today's grim realities: 68 percent of African- American kids born out of wedlock, 45 percent of Hispanic kids, 25 percent of white kids." The states with the highest percentage of kids born out of wedlock are the most conservative 'Christian' states. The ones with the lowest rate of kids born out of wedlock are the most 'liberal' states.

"The development of a child is enhanced by having a mother and a father. Such a family is the ideal for the future of the child and for the strength of the nation. I wonder how it is that unelected judges, like some in my state of Massachusetts, are so unaware of this reality, so oblivious to the millennia of recorded history. It's their fault that kids don't have moms and dads. I'm surprised he didn't call here for a constitutional amendment to outlaw divorce. Huckabee would have.)"

See above. The states with the most single parents due to divorce are the Southern, conservative 'Christian' states. Again, the lowest rate of single parents due to divorce are the most 'liberal' states. I'm beginning to see a pattern here, aren't you?

""Europe is facing a demographic disaster. That's the inevitable product of weakened faith in the Creator: failed families, disrespect for the sanctity of human life, and eroded morality." (If you don't believe in God, society falls apart. And you'd better believe in my version of God, too, damn it. And what is 'demographic disaster' code for? Not enough white people?)"

Yes, not enough white folks. Europeans have no issues with what most in America would consider pornographic -sex shops in the downtown areas, lots of skin on ads, etc. They also have a much lower rate of teenage and unwanted pregnancies, and when they do, there is a support system to take care of the young mothers and the kids. They have LOTS of issues with the violent shows/movies that most Americans appear to think is no big deal. Who'se morality is eroded here?

"It is high time to lower taxes, including corporate taxes, to take a weed whacker... (APPLAUSE) Get out -- get out that weed whacker and take it to regulations and reform entitlements and, by the way, stand up to the increasingly voracious appetite of the unions in our government." ('Cause you know damn well that it's the working stiffs and not management that causes all the problems in Corporate America.)"
Incredible. CEO's manage to get incredible payoffs even when the companies they run are being run into bankruptcy... What a crock.

""I've given this a lot of thought -- I'd forestall the launch of a national campaign and, frankly, I'd make it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win. Frankly, in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror." (Because if we put that black guy or that woman in the White House, the terrorists will have already won. Heaven help us if we actually start talking to those who disagree with us rather than threatening them...)"

Nono, we can't talk to them.... just bomb them into non-existance. While we become the laughingstock of the rest of the world.

I don't know how you could watch/read this without getting sick.

How did Romney ever come to be in office in that citadel of WASP Dems, Massachusetts, anyhow? Huckabee is scaring me as much or maybe more than Romney did.

From: [identity profile] davidbcoe.livejournal.com

The scariest thing to me wasn't that he said all this stuff. The man would say anything to get a vote. (And I think this was actually the first speech of his 2012 campaign as opposed to the last one of his '08 campaign.) No, what scared me most was that the people who crowded into that hall ate it up! They loved this speech -- they were saying it was the best one they'd heard from anyone in this campaign. God, save us all from the people who claim to speak on Your behalf.

I started to get outraged at some of the things he said, but then I remembered that he sank $35 million of his own money into his campaign, and I felt better.

I believe by "demographic disaster" he means the fact that populations are declining in a number of European countries, bringing some current economic problems and major future economic problems.

If people of Mitt's opinions continue to hold power in this country, Europe will have no problem maintaining its educated white population as liberals flee the US for more civilized shores.

frankly, i'm pretty terrified of someone like this in the oval office. This is quite possibly worse than Bush, and i didn't think that was possible. at least Bush sorta likes Hispanics. This guy is frightening. This is the type of guy who would have probably voted for miscegeny laws in the early part of the last century. He's the type of person who would think that me (being a Caucasian) and my husband (being a Hispanic) are dangers to the moral fabric of the united states. add to that that my husband may or may not have papers, we lived together before we were married, are against the death penalty and are pro-choice, then we may very well be Mr. and Mrs. Antichrist. good riddance. it's only sad to me that so many people support him.

I think Mitt's next job should be as a Patriots linebacker. Either he'll improve the linebacker corps, or he'll just get smacked to the ground a lot. Either way Patriots fans win.

Damn it Steve! You know that dwelling on this sort of crap (idiocy, hypocrisy, misogyny, self-rightousness) makes my blood pressure go sky high and brings on migraines.

No rants from me. I'm going home. Once there I can pretend that the people who lead my country are worthy. (And don't any of you tell me my head is in the sand...that's the point).
