Via Raw Story, via the always interesting Terry Kanago...

Assuming this has been accurately reported, it seems that Mike Huckabee has plans for the Constitution should he be elected President:

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

So... we need to rewrite the Constitution so that it's more in line with Huckabee's right-wingnut version of the Bible? Wow, and we thought King George was bad...

Someone ought to tell him about the Council of Nicaea. Although to be fair, that wasn't exactly easy...

I clicked the comment button just to bring up the Council of Nicaea. It's a shame that Huckabee doesn't know (or knows and doesn't acknowledge the implications) of how "the word of God" was assembled - and how much was removed and added to it in the process.

I dunno about the Bible but I think Arius certainly considered the Council to have tampered with the word of the living God.

One specific word in fact.

My jaw dropped when I saw/heard the clip. I'm cross-posting. I already knew he was nuts (and I'm speaking as a Christian, too!) but this is even further out than I realized he would go.

Wow.

You Americans have such... interesting politicians. :p Please tell me this is going to hurt his chances, rather than helping them?

Yes and no. To those who subscribe to his particular brand of crazy, he'll win major points. To those who don't, some will go in a different direction and some will find other things to like about him.

Personally, I'm backing Obama since Edwards has no chance and Clinton is a more intelligent, Democratic, skirt wearing version of Dubya.

That's "King George III," actually. You know—the crazy one. Gives us so much trouble with here in the (former) colonies dont'chaknow.

I linked to a youtube clip of it on my LJ.

Hey, maybe he just wants to clear up the good old 2nd amendment by adding "Thou shalt not kill."

To steal from the Onion: It's monosyllabic, people. What's so hard to understand?

Man I'm in a mood today politically. Next!

I saw this on crooksandliars.com and it scared the crap out of me. Just what we need: another right-wing wack-job in the White House.

Scared the heck out of me when I read about it. However, the one good thing about Huckabee running and saying stuff like this is that if he does get the Republican nomination by virtue of the evangelicals turning out in droves, it practically guarantees a Democratic victory in November no matter who the Dem candidate is!
