A Senate "no-confidence" vote on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales would be "meaningless" according to President Bush, but the administration and top Republican officials are working extremely hard to have Republican senators close ranks and vote against the resolution.

What a strange definition of "meaningless." To quote The Princess Bride: "I do not think that word means what you think it means."

EDITED TO ADD: I just checked CNN -- the Senate Republicans successfully blocked the resolution, with only 53 votes to end the filibuster against it (60 were needed)...

Bush has also sounded incredibly arrogant about this no-confidence vote. It's a lovely bit of symbolism for the majority of the Senate to publicly state they have no confidence in the Att. Gen.

Well, the majority may have voted that way, but it wasn't enough. They were seven votes short of passing the resolution.

Oh, good point! (I just finished watching The NewsHour, and during their report on the vote's defeat I didn't even have the satisfaction of getting to cuss or yell at Gonzales, thanks to my current bout of laryngitis.)

One of the many reasons I hate the Busheviks is the way they've been working so hard to make all words meaningless. For example, "freedom", "democracy", "bipartisan", "vote"....
