I've been a musician for, uh, well, several decades now. I've owned and played instruments I hated, instruments that simply did the job, and instruments that I liked very much. For instance, I really enjoy playing both my Roscoe bass and the Epiphone acoustic-electric fretless bass I stumbled across. The Guild Starfire V that I (well, my parents) bought in 1964 is a great instrument and I like pulling it out now and then and giving it a workout. I like my Seagull S6 and Performer guitars -- both good sounding guitars and pleasant to play.

But the Seagull Artist Studio I picked up in January... I don't know what it is about that guitar, but I pick it up and use it every day. I see the case and I want to open it, pull the guitar out, and start plucking away. When I'm not at home, I think about when I'll have time to get in half an hour with it.

I think, for the first time, that I may have fallen in love with an instrument... I mean, we'll see, but right now, I've never had the compulsion to have an instrument in my hands as much as I have with this guitar.

You musicians out there -- is this your experience too? Are there some instruments that just call to you, that seem to have personalities all their own? Or are they just "instruments" to you -- necessary tools of the trade? I'm curious.
