I hate the drive to Chicago. I-65 is a horrible road, especially when the semi doing 61 mph decides to pass the semi in the right lane doing 60 mph...

But, we eventually got here, and in time for Bruce and Karen's Friday night music party. It was a small circle, but with people whom I love to play music with: David, Chaz, Amy, and I took the lead turns while Bruce added some percussion. There were a few brief guest appearances, but primarily that was the circle for the great bulk of the night, with a good audience with many friends cycling in and out and around (and passing flasks to the musicians). We had a blast! David always adds incredible energy to the circle, Amy's fiddle-playing... well, I don't know anyone better, and Chaz pulled out a resonator guitar last night that blew me away. This was the first time I've used my Seagull Performer in an acoustic-only setting, and it did well: bright and loud, and -- at least in this venue -- cutting through enough for the occasional solo (though I wish the person playing the guitar was better at soloing...).

When I left at 12:30, Chaz and Amy were still playing, and a banjo player and ukelele had joined them.

Today, the Tooles have a concert at 3:00 -- I won't miss that! I intend to wander around a bit. I saw Jim Hines briefly last night, and hope to get a chance to talk some with him, as well as other friends too numerous to name.

Honestly, it's rather nice going to a convention and not having to worry about being on this panel and that panel and having most or your day scheduled.
