This one's a female finch, perched on a dead branch of the fir tree next to the deck. What I like about this one is the echo of the finch's coloring and pattern in the branches.
In your photo, her browns have a slight hint of her mate's red colors.
In other bird news, I had a very noisy down woodpecker outside my door this morning. I had no idea such a small bird could have such a loud call. A juvenile robin was following it from branch to branch in apparent fascination -- or maybe the robin was hoping to catch up with the woodpecker and give it a good thumping to shut it up.
