Denise and I went to see the new Captain America movie tonight... and I realized as I was watching it that I've stopped enjoying superhero movies like this that are 75% CGI over-the-top action and hyper-violence (I lost count in the first ten minutes how many people died), and about 25% actual story.
I want movies that reverse the percentage, where genuine characterization and story dominate, and *not* the action. I want stories where, if someone is hurt or dies, there are repercussions and grief and emotions. Movies like this have no heart; they're nothing but adrenaline and movement, without any reflection about what they're actually saying.
I'm tired of them. They're popcorn and empty calories. I'd like actual nutrition in my movies... and in my books as well.
What about you?
