I want to promote a book. No, it's not mine, but in the interest of full disclosure, it is a book by a friend of mine. But friendship isn't the reason I'm pushing the book: I'm pushing it because it's a damn fine and good book, because it deserves the attention, and because the sequel to it will (finally!) be following in July...
The book is BITTER SEEDS by Ian Tregillis, which was released a few days ago in its paperback incarnation. BITTER SEEDS is a fascinating alternate history of WWII, with superpowers, psionic abilities, and the supernatural thrown in for good measure. This is a brilliant first novel, and the first book of what will be the "Milkweed Triptych." Not only that, but the paperback contains bonus material in the form of an extra short story set in the same universe ("What Doctor Gottlieb Saw"), as well as an excerpt from the next volume, THE COLDEST WAR, which will appear in July.
