Well, Toast! didn't win the "Best New Artist" Grammy the other night, but we did take several Grammys before the prime time awards were given out. Here's a listing of all the band's wins from the Monday night ceremony:
Dale Lewis won "Best Sock Counter In A Cover Band"
Mike Russell took the "Best Female Artist" Grammy -- no, he wasn't awarded it; he just took it and he says he's not giving it back, either.
Tom Steele (once again) won "Most Actual Grammys By Any Toast Member" -- we think this is likely to a an annual award for him.
Rick Hagee was given the "Hey, He's Actually Someone WIth Musical Talent in Toast!" award, which believe me, the rest of us in Toast already knew he was going to win. Rick knows actual notes and stuff. And he can play in other keys than "G".
Stephen Leigh was nominated in the "Novelist Who Is Also A Musician" category, but lost to Stephen King. Steve insists that he actually won, and that the Grammy committee just got the last name wrong. Stephen King's official response was "Yeah, and my books outsell yours 100 to 1, too, you loser!"
Tom Vogel, in a terrifically close contest with John Bonham, Keith Moon, and every drummer from Spinal Tap, was given the "Oldest Still Alive Drummer In A Rock Band" Grammy. At least we think he's still alive; frankly, sometimes it's difficult to tell.
Steve Gallant was awarded the "Best Hair in An Over-50 Group" Grammy, which, believe me, was well-deserved, since no one else in Toast! (except maybe Russell) has much of that commodity.
Overall, it was a great night for the group, as you can tell. Now you hear the Grammy-winning band performing everyone else's greatest hits TODAY!, THIS SATURDAY at DeSha's at Harper's Point, from 7:30 - 11:30.
It's not going to snow that night. Promise. Honest. So you don't have any excuses, and we expect to see you there! We'll be looking for you -- yes, you specifically!
DeSha's is at 11320 Montgomery Road/Harper’s Point.
