Compromise: "an agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions" (American Heritage Dictionary).
It's obvious President Obama doesn't understand this word, and that he doesn't possess a spine. The Democrats wanted no extension of the tax cuts for those making $250,000 and above; the Republicans wanted all the tax cuts extended, and that's what Obama has agreed to. A 'compromise' might have been allowing the tax cuts to expire for those making $500,000 or even $1,000,000 -- giving both sides a bit of what they wanted. Simply giving in doesn't meet the definition.
Maybe the congressional Democrats will be more forceful and work for an actual compromise. No, wait; they're Democrats...
