Passed 70,000 words this morning on A MAGIC OF DAWN. That puts me close to the halfway mark on the draft -- at least I hope it does!

And I've figured out the necessary character arc for one of the main characters all the way through to the end of the book. That helps!

...70,000 words...close to the halfway mark...

Heh, this is how we know it's fantasy genre.

Are you a putter-inner or a taker-outer in revisions? (I'm a putter-inner. 70K in first draft would put me near the finish line, but I end up adding about 20% in subsequent drafts.)

I both take out and add words in revision, but generally add more than I delete. A 150,000 word draft might turn into a 170,000 word 'final' manuscript -- but it's a case of deleting 10,000 words while adding 30,000.

And yep, a halfway point of 70,000 tells you it's a Big Fat Fantasy. :-)

I could have sworn that I'd already read A MAGIC of TWILIGHT. I'm guessing that the thrill of having A MAGIC OF TWILIGHT come out in MMP drove the name of the book you're writing right out of your head...

Argh! You're absolutely right, David. Oops! Gotta go change that... :-)

Yeah, otherwise it's just a "character ar..."
