Roland Burris doesn't understand why people don't acknowledge that he's junior senator from the State of Illinois, after his appointment by the hirsute and embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

"I didn't expect all this. I expected my qualifications, my commitment to the people of Illinois, that that would be the best choice the governor could make because I could hit the ground running. I could go in and begin to just learn the procedures and then be able to go to work with the people of Illinois."

If he really didn't anticipate the uproar and dispute, then perhaps he's not the best choice for Senator...

the hirsute and embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The inclusion of hirsute in your description of Blago amuses me to no end.

Not anticipating it and saying that he didn't anticipate it are, of course, two very different things.
I guess he thinks he's got a legal case of some kind...

Blagojevich should have thought outside the box and appointed Sarah Palin. That'd confuse people.

hirsute?

The amusing thing is that he wears his hair that way to honor Elvis. Thank goodness he's not a FLock of Seagulls fan.

Now the rest of the country gets to find out what we already know here in Illinois. I think he's a poor choice for senator and a pathetic person to follow Mr. Obama.

The thing that gets me is that he insists he *is* a senator now... what happened to little trivialities like being sworn in???

Sheesh. He's either stupid or incredibly entitled, or drinking the same Kool Aid off-brand that Blago is.

I agree completely, and for at least a couple reasons. 1) He should be tuned in enough to realize there would be people upset with the appointment. If he doesn't have at least that level of people skills how effective a senator would he be? 2) If he has that big a blind spot to the issue, it leads one to think he, too, is part of the problem and perhaps he's thinking he 'deserves' the appointment, not seeing anything else.

What album is that Loreena McKennit piece on? I suspect I don't have that one.

That song's from McKennit's "Live in Paris and Toronto" CD
