We learned today that Mari York, whose office is across the hall from mine, died yesterday -- I believe she was 29 or 30, a poet, a lecturer at NKU teaching college writing, women's studies, and literature. Evidently she suffered a seizure while at home... I didn't know Mari as well as others, but we would chat a bit nearly every day I was in my office...

After Danny's death earlier this semester -- our beloved chair and a dear, dear friend -- this comes as another blow to the department. Death has come to often and too close in recent months.

Sometimes, it seems the universe is more cruel than we thought it should be.

Others, we just realize it's not about the universe being cruel, but that these things just happen.

I'm sorry for your loss.

How very sad. I am reminded of a friend of all of ours who died too young and is much missed.
