Fascinating article. I heard a similar story on NPR a while back. It may even have been about the same kids--maybe the Atlantic article is the same story redone. It's a very interesting controversey and I have many thoughts, but I think I'll save them for my own LJ post as it's likely to run long.

I actually know a couple of people--both "male"--who have been female all their lives. I've never considered them "disordered", but one carries that diagnosis.

Interesting article. So hard to form an opinion on this as every case the child seems to end up in the "not very happy" to the "not at all happy" range and there seems to be no perfect solution. I think the way this Tina handled it was kind of hopeless though. Trying to make the boy pass on as "bridget, brandons cousin from California" and not moving to a different place, is just to kill the boys chance at a decent social life in my opinion.
