CNN did an interview with Sarah Palin the other day. I just got around to reading the transcript. I've heard of softball interviews, but Drew Griffin, the interviewer, was tossing her big fat marshmallows the size of basketballs to hit. This is the fluffiest bit of interviewing I've come across in a long time.

CNN, you should be ashamed. This is what you deem to be journalism?

As long as CNN pretends Glenn Beck or Lou Dobbs are journalists, the network is sinking to the level of Fox "News". They're coverage of the debates was terrible, and their range of "pundits" is shameful.

It's a pretty incredible interview, OK... but she still manages to screw it up. All the usual issues are there - she's incoherent and rambling, she talks as if she and not McCain were the Presidential candidate, and she reveals a sketchy grasp of the issues. I wouldn't vote this woman to look after the lottery money in the office.

Did.

I'm sure they'll pay careful attention to my feelings, too. :-)

Going against my grain...

Okay...yes, they took it very easy on her. But look at Charlie Gibson's interviews. He grilled Palin (a dozen pointed questions on a nuclear Iran) and marshmallowed Obama with open ended opportunities for sound bites such as:" You also said at this rally we need new direction, we need new leadership in Washington. What would you be doing right now that's any different than what the Bush Administration has done and is doing?"

So...the media is biased...both ways. It's really unfortunate and we are no better for it as a nation.

The other thing that gets me...the media is finally picking up on the public's outrage that they are perfectly willing to broadcast either candidate telling an outright lie, an omission or a particularly misleading spin. So what are they doing about it? Creating "check the fact shows" which appear to nearly sanction the dishonesties associated with campaigning in America. Apparantly, instead of checking the facts before broadcasting we are pleased and pat ourselves on the back when we bother to unearth this stuff.

Journalism has changed drastically. Investigative journalism is nearly extinct.
