"Maverick" is a term other people may use when referring to you. But when you refer to yourself as a maverick, you are no longer a maverick, only a parody. It's like referring to yourself as "attractive," "talented," "intelligent," or "good in bed." It might be the case, but at best it's egotistical and at worse it's a lie.

Oh, and that mud-slinging I mentioned was coming in the last post? Here it comes. Palin in Colorado today said: ""Our opponent though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."

"Our opponent though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."

Doesn't Palin pal around with someone who was a member of AIP, a separatist organization?

Except for me. I'm all those things, just ask me.

Palin said, "It's time to take the gloves off."

I guess we get to talk about HER minister now, and HER family connections, and McCAIN's unsavory political connections, eh? Shall we bring up the Keating Five? And this means we get to blame McCain for everything a Republican has done in the past eight years, too. I just hope the other side has its ammo ready.

I agree. If this turns into a character battle, then McCain's character and Palin's character are fair game.

We won't mention that (though, in fairness, there was an element of violence to the Weathermen movement that is currently missing from the AIP).

We'll see -- it depends on whether the Obama campaign also goes character-negative in response.

They are -- if and only if the Obama campaign decides to go negative in answer. We shall see.

Of course! Didn't I say so? And who would know me better?

Well, okay, I am not one of them. Okay, two. Three. Fine, four.

Well, unless you're Bret Maverick...

And regarding Palin's comments-- I'm not sure I've ever been so appalled. I'm not sure that even the actual Swift Boat ads were as despicable.

I hope not. That's what I hate about politics-- the slanderous, foul-mouthed half-truths or flat out lies.

But it's hard to stomach and hard to sit back and feel like you're on the defensive all the time. Turning the other cheek is very, very hard.
