The credit for suggesting this one goes to our friend Bob Hess, who (like me) is a fan of Richard Thompson and thought the title of this song fit my Pandemic World Basement Tapes concept. The tune is “Keep Your Distance” -- and has nothing to do with viruses unless you consider love might be a virus. I’m playing this on my DADGAD-tuned guitar, since this song seemed to cry out for that open, droning sound. I’d tell you to listen to one of Richard Thompson’s versions of this song if you want to hear really excellent guitar work.
I didn’t use the Harmony Singer pedal on the choruses, but you’re welcome to add harmony to the lines “Keep your distance / Keep distance” that appear in every chorus, and add some background ‘oohs’ for the rest of the chorus. I’ll be listening for them!
As always, this is a first-take, “we ain’t goin’ back to fix nothin’” recording. No overdubbing, no autotune -- if you want that, go elsewhere. You may certainly subscribe to my channel (‘sleighwriter’) if you like it. Leave a comment if you’re so inclined, and suggest us to a few friends!
