And we’re back with more of the Pandemic World Basement Tapes… This one’s a lovely Jimmy Webb-composed song—“Wichita Lineman”—which has one of the most memorable lines of lyric I can think of: “And I need you more than want you / And I want you for all time”. Glenn Campbell made perhaps the canonical version of this tune, but it’s been much covered. And as I mention in the video, it has several of my favorite chord: the minor 7th.
This is also, per our routine, a first take recording, leaving in any mistakes I make vocally or instrumentally, emulating a live performance. (For this one, as an asthmatic, I wish I could sustain the note at the end of verses longer, but alas…) To find all of these videos, go to YouTube and look for the “sleighwriter” channel—speaking of mistakes, in the video I leave off the “s” in sleighwriter…) And please leave a comment wherever you hear this if you’re so inclined (or reclined, or whatever position you’re in).
